One name undoubtedly stands out in the history of the Afher project: Miguel Villar Arrokalde. An entrepreneur with an innovative approach to industry, Miguel launched the first company dedicated to the service of re-sharpening special cutting tools in the Arrasate of 1988. Afher was born. A pioneer idea aiming to provide every customer with a quality and completely personalised service, always drawing on its extensive knowledge and experience with special cutting tools. Right from the very beginning at Afher we decided to base our work philosophy on innovative means and technology. In 1989 we opted for Germany’s Michael Deckel technology. A series of S11 sharpening machines with a range of high-precision accessories making them the world’s best universal sharpening machines.
Innovation has always been part of our history
With the passing of the years, CNC technology gained protagonism in our means of production. The HSS and HSS Co tool gave way to the use of solid carbide tools. In 1997, we decided to purchase our first 5-axis vertical sharpening CNC machine, projection measuring machines + cameras enabling us to measure profiles + helixes + incidents, etc.
The passing of the years and new German technology have marked our development. From 2002 onwards, at Afher we decided to use the German technology of Walter Maschinenbau GmbH in the field of tool grinding on 5-axis CNC machines. The year 2005 was very important for us. We moved to our present location, where we were able to expand into our new facilities and therefore acquire more machinery.
The generation takeover and the need to evolve in the services we were offering many industrial sectors has earned us our place today as specialists in the sharpening and manufacturing of industrial cutting tools. A history above all marked by work, lifelong learning and our capacity to continue innovating, all the while remaining at the forefront of technology.
